So You Wanna Be a Hero?

Speaking of super heroes, The SciFi Channel and Stan Lee are teaming up to give someone a chance to be a "real" super hero in the reality show "Who Wants to Be a Super Hero?"

From thousands of hopefuls, Stan Lee will choose 11 lucky finalists to move into a secret lair and compete for the opportunity to become a real-life superhero.

Secret Lair?

Apparently prime consideration is your ability to create a cool costume. If you've ever been to a Comics Con, you know people can make some nice costumes.

Dressing up as various costumed characters from comics, video games and movies is called Cosplay. I didn't know this hobby had a name until I started this post. There are a lot of groups out there involved in Cosplay, from the Renaissance festival folks, to people that dress up as their favorite manga characters.

Last year Gnumoon had an interesting encounter with a Cosplayer. She posted a pic of said cosplayer in her blog and commented on Gold Bikini Syndrome. Gumoon's post was funny and well written, but it was discovered by the female in the picture. Oops. It ended well, but it made me realize how seriously some people take this hobby. Note to the Cospeople. The comic shows and Sci Fi cons would be far less interesting without you.

This brings us back to Who Wants To Be  A Super Hero? Anyone want to bet there is a requirement  that at least half the "contestants" are female? Have you seen modern costumes for female superheroes? Most of the audience for super hero comics is male. Anyone want to talk ratings?
