The Nissan "Toys" commercial is my all time favorite TV ad. Featuring an Adventure Team GIJoe rescuing "Barbie" from another dull date with "Ken" it was funny and the most memorable commercial of 1997, winning a stack of awards.
It also caught the eyes of Mattel, who weren't pleased. They sued Nissan even though the actual fashion doll in the clip was only generic and not a branded "Barbie".
Still the damage was done and the ad faded away into obscurity.
The sad part is almost no one saw the sequel.
The sequel is more fun in my opinion, but I hated the music. The Kiss track "Calling Dr. Love" may have seemed funny at the time, but I think it was a distraction from the adventure side of the mini movie.
So I took the original clip for "Toys 2" and recut it with new music and sound effects.
Note the characters in the credits are all Hasbro trademarks. The folks in Rhode Island seemed to get the original joke and loved the free promotion.
So in my version Joe rescues Kimber from the despicable Eric Raymond.
The result is:
Toys 2 is also at YouTube
Enjoy.
'til all commercials are fun little adventure movies

I can't get that "Toys 2" theme out of my
head. Give the bulldog an Oscar. Better than the original.

The original commercial is still my favorite...but your remake with the new soundtrack is great!

Yep. I avoided the "real" names on purpose. I substituted character names that were trademarked by Hasbro.
In this case the characters I used were all from Hasbro's JEM and the Holograms line of toys from the mid 80's. That seemed to fit the Barbie theme better than generic names.

I didn't know that was the "Adventure Team" version of "G.I. Joe" that the advertisers were emulating. By the way, the characters names in the commercial were Roxanne, Nick, and Tad.

I loved the original commercial, and I love this remix as much! My grandniece is going to scream when she hears the "Kim Possible" theme!

I do have the original, but the video is not as clean. I'm working on upgrading it though. Watch the blog or my Joe page for when it is done.

Tom,
This is great! Any thoughts on cleaning up the original Nissan ad ?

This is great! Your music selection is SO much better than in the original.
These commercials were part of the great ad teams from TBWA Chiat/Day in the 90's...the same teams that did the Absolute Ads and the Taco Bell "Yo Quiero" dog. Coupled with the "1984" Apple commerical, Chiat/Day is the major reason I got a degree in Advertising.
(A degree I NEVER use, btw...that minor in Graphic Design is another story, however.)
ps- GarageBand is another reason to ditch the PeeCee format. The whole iLife series is worth it.
