The X-Women Speak
There was an interesting AP interview posted with the women of the X-Men films, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, Rebecca Romijn and Anna Paquin.
Seems it's not just the comic fans that want to see them use their powers. The actors want some action too.
Do you think Anna Paquin wanted something to do? Maybe?
A few snippets from the interview:
ANNA PAQUIN: I still never get to do anything. Three movies, absolutely no
action. It's kind of amazing.
REBECCA ROMIJN: Somebody's always got it worse than you.
PAQUIN: I managed to survive three action comic-book movies and pretty much
almost not to see one single bit of real violence or, you know, action
sequences.

Rogue's Action Scene. She gets to neutralize Pyro. Nice gloves though.
BERRY: You'll have to do a Rogue spinoff, just so you can do something.
PAQUIN: Dude, I don't know if anybody wants to see that, actually.
BERRY: Well, you got a great love story. I didn't have that. I got no action
and no story. I had nothing.
PAQUIN: I had some gloves.
--------
BERRY: It's a woman's right to change her hair, and I think it's not by
mistake that all the women have different hair, like, every time.
PAQUIN: I don't.
BERRY: That's what women do. We change our hair.
PAQUIN: I don't.
Q: You don't what?
PAQUIN: I don't have different hair. I'm never different.
-----
Q: Anna, why does Rogue find her ability to steal others' power a curse?
PAQUIN: She's completely isolated. She doesn't have the option of conducting
a normal life or having normal relations with people. It's also a lot more
recent. She's a lot younger, so it's been less time to get used to it. I
feel like maybe if she had a little more time, she might have come to sort
of accept that.
This picture has nothing to do with Rogue, but I'm including it anyway. A while back Dan DiBiase got frustrated with not being able to equip the figures in his photo shoots with all the clothing and costumes he wanted. So he just created his own. This Phoenix costume is one of his first.

This goes back to the problem of these movies. They try to shove too many characters into the movies. the Batman franchise suffers from this. One of the reasons Spider-man is so good is they only portray 1 villain at a time.
At this point, let's talk about the upcoming Superman movie. When did Superman turn into this scrawny guy? Where's the George Reeves type of guy? The Alex Ross type?

Never been much of a Superman fan. I did like one of the trailers. Can't remember which one though. Will probably take my youngest to see it, but otherwise would probably pass.
That said I love Lois and Clark. Or did, in the beginning...
Haven't watched Smallville.
Skipped Batman Begins. Still haven't seen it. Dark, moody Batman kinda bores me.
Spiderman has been great, except:
Kirsten Dunst - She's a fine actress I guess, but not in "Mary Jane" league. JMO.
I still grimace everytime I see the Green Goblin costume. I realize all comic costumes don't transfer to screen, but that change from the comic costume was awful.
Toby Maguire was a great choice.
Speaking of costumes. Does anyone believe Peter/Spidey had any chance at all of making that great costume?
Okay, I know - suspend belief. I really hope they make Spidey 3 and 4 at the same time as the rumor indicates. That's the way to make these big films (i.e LOTR).
Didn't like Daredevil.
I'm probably the only one in the world that loves Elektra the movie. Jennifer Garner rocks. I liked the story too.
X-Men - Yeah too many characters. Same problem with the Avengers. I'd love to see Cap, Iron Man, Wasp and (insert heroes here) but it'll never happen. I liked the animated movie.
Iron Man - Can't believe they can pull this off.
Ghost Rider - They may pull this off, but it's going to be hard to make it work for ninety minutes and not look like a bad horror film.
Whew. That was fun.

OK, here's my long winded thoughts on how I would have done the X-Men movies....
Start with the original group, Beast, Iceman, Angel, Cyclops, and Marvel Girl. continued somewhat with the plot of the first movie. include Wolverine and put Storm in the place of Rogue (Storm is African, does Halle Berry seem African to you?). The Baddies would be the original Brotherhood, Magneto, Scarlet Witch, Quick Silver, Mastermind, and Toad. I would drop all of the WWII Nazi reference for Magneto. Villains who are in their 80's, is a little much. I would put Magneto and Prof. X in their 40's and the rest in their 20's. I would reference all of the mutants and have them running around the school, but that's it. Imagine the fun of having the Scarlet Witch and Mastermind's powers on the screen! Rebbeca Romijn would look pretty hot as the Scarlet Witch! I would get rid of the Leather outfits. They don't have to be spandex, but they need to look like outfits they can move in! I would get rid of the idea that all mutants are homeless. They have SUPER POWERS! Could you imagine a delivery person that could run the speed of sound! Normal humans don't like mutants because they are losing all the good paying jobs to them! Hate to say this but they would probably lean to the criminal side. If you could phase through bank walls...Think of the temptation! The second movie would be Vs. the Sentinels. I would drop the whole Phoenix saga. It's been done to death. The third movie would be the transition movie along the lines of the original X-Men transferring to the New X-Men.
X-Men was my first comic, and I don't think they did the comics justice with this movie series.
Just my $0.02

I wish they would have used Wanda and Pietro. Two many third string mutants in X3. I guess they are saving them for the Avengers. Yeah right.
Sentinels/Galactus - I would love to see it, but it may come off looking silly. The classic Galactus/FF comic had the Thing fighting the Big G's foot. Fun in the comics, maybe not on the big screen. Hard to say. Not much to compare except the giant robot at the beginning of Sky High. A fun superhero movie, I highly recommend it.
I think they chickened out in the danger room scene in X3, showing the Sentinel off-stage only.
Love the original X-Men, would have drooled over a movie focusing on Scott, Jean, Bobby, Hank and Warren. Oh well.
Costumes are tough. Ones they used weren't bad, just not great.
Ever see the Justice League TV pilot for about ten years ago? They used the comic costumes. Bad, bad, bad.
Phoenix. Yeah, I agree with you. They should have left it alone.
I guess since we can't get what we want, they could at least USE the characters they put on film.
