Johnny Cash Loves a Nut
Johnny Cash returned to number one on the Billboard album charts this week. Not just the Country chart either, he sits atop the big one.
American V: A Hundred Highways is Cash's first number one album since the glory days of "Folsom Prison Blues" and "A Boy Named Sue."
It's too bad The Man in Black wasn't around to see it.
Back in the late sixties, early seventies Johnny had a TV show. If you are much younger than I am, you probably never saw it. This was during a time when these types of shows were fairly common and the music played on them by their hosts was often unique and never repeated on that artists recorded output.
While trying to figure out what to write about Johnny I dug this clip up. I'd seen it before, but the magic of YouTube makes these little slices of history a little easier to rediscover.
So here it is, from the Johnny Cash show in 1969 - Johnny Sings Everyone Loves a Nut with The Monkees (Davy Jones, Mickey Dolenz, Michael Nesmith.)
By this point time Peter Tork had left the band and the remaining trio were heavily influenced by the country leanings of Michael Nesmith. Hence the appearances on such shows as Johnny Cash and Glen Campbell's Goodtime Hour.
'til Frank Zappa hangs with Prefab Four (Wait he did! It's even on YouTube.)
