Ken Barnes continues his commentary on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the Listen Up blog. His comments remain a great read and I encourage you to drop in.
Here are a couple of other comments (Ken in blue, Me in Green):
First thing I do when I come in to the office is read through the comments and publish the unpublished ones for Idol Chatter (and the more generalized Listen Up blog, which is presently consumed with debates over who deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -- mostly, if you read the comments there, Rush). As I mentioned before this one is just plain stupid. Influence? Just ask the musicans. See how many mention Peart. No single musician is mentioned more often. Period.
Paul Revere & The Raiders: If it was my Hall, they would have been inducted ages ago. Great records, a band that above almost all others brought garage-rock to the masses. But I think there's an unwritten rule against bands in uniforms qualifying for the Hall. There is a huge bias against "progressive" bands apparently, but an even bigger one if you (god forbid) had a TV show. Paul, Mark, Fang, Drake and Smitty were one of the best of the American rock bands, but saddled with a TV show (Where the Action Is) and those Raider uniforms, they will be cursed to remain locked out of the hall forever. For my money Mark Lindsay is and will remain the best voice in rock.
