Cherie Currie - Chainsaw Chick

Cherie Currie is in my rock chick hall of fame along with Joan Jett and Pat Benatar*.

If you don't know who Cherie Currie is, you should.

Cherie was the cute blonde lead singer for the all female rock band, The Runaways.

Today, The Runaways are mostly know for incubating the talents of Joan Jett and Lita Ford, but Cherie Currie, Sandy West and Jackie Fox all played a major role in rocks first true all female rock band.

Cherie is probably most known for her deep sexy vocals on the Runaways anthem Cherry Bomb, but she has had a varied career appearing in films with the likes of Jodie Foster and Demi Moore, and recording albums with sister Marie.

But I think her current artistic endeavor may be her most unique and showcases just how much talent this woman has.

Yep. That cute, sexy, blonde on all those Runaways songs is also a very talented sculptor.

If that wasn't enough Runaways news for ya, I've got more. The Runaways Movie.

The Runaways are coming to the big screen. Based on a memoir written by Cherie Currie and executive produced by Joan Jett, the story of The Queens of Noise is headed to a movie theater near you.

Unlike most Runaways projects since the breakup of the band, this one has the approval of Joan Jett. Joan has been very protective of her Runaways involvement and thus far has declined to participate in any type of revival, including Vicki Blue's documentary.

But it appears Joan believes in this project and her involvement is good news for Runaways fans.

I'm just sorry that Sandy West is no longer with us to play one more show with the Neon Angels on the Road to Ruin.

There is an article currently at Billboard online talking about Courtney Love's upcoming album. It quotes Linda Perry and basically says Courtney is the only female worthy to be called a Rocker.

No Linda. Courtney is an idiot and if you believe she is all we have, then you too, are an idiot.

Joan Jett is the essential female rocker.  Period.

While on the subject of Joan, we are sad to report that Runaways Drummer Sandy West passed away this week.
