Heroes always has a variety of comic artists at Free Comic Book Day, and 2010 was no exception. Here is a video of Brian Stelfreeze sketching Pinky and the Brain. All of the artists were very accommodating and would sketch pretty much anything people asked for.
I'll give more of a Free Comic Book Day update later, but here's a quick preview.
Heroes in Charlotte consistently goes above and beyond on Free Comic Book day, with the comics, artists and just a general cool atmosphere. This year we were even graced with what I think was our first cosplay - Riddle as Zatanna.
Free Comic Book Day returns to the Charlotte Heroes on May 1st. In addition to the stellar lineup of artists, including Mark Brooks and Adam Hughes, there will be an art show at Gallery Twenty-Two that evening.
Mark your calendars, this is one of the best Free Comic Book events around.
Another Free Comic Book Day has come and gone. The "free" is somewhat of a myth as most everyone (me included) spends money when they go in the store. This is a good thing as you see a lot of new faces in the store, and bringing new fans in is positive for the entire industry. Of course all of the artists and writers are giving their time for free, and for that we are very thankful.

All in all another great event, and though the Heroes Con is much bigger, this little gathering is in it's own way just a bit more special to those of that have been reading comics our entire lives.
A twenty year veteran of Heroes cons, it was great to hear Brian talk about how he and many of the artisits at Free Comic Book Day would turn down appearances in their home town to support Shelton Drum at Heroes Aren't Hard to Find, because Shelton had treated them so well over the years.
Heroes may not be the biggest of the Comic Cons, but I have a feeling the creators behind the comics regard it as one of the best.

Mark does some amazing work and he is a true joy to watch as he sketches.
The artists tables are something of an "artist roulette" if you want a sketch, so it takes a bit of luck to get in the right line if you have a particular artist in mind. But that's okay, because like most everyone there, I enjoyed just watching everyone work.
There are so many talented folks visiting Heroes you can't lose and I was able to pick up a signed copy of one of Marks prints, Along Came a Spider.

Don't forget this Saturday, between eating Mexican food and taking in Spidey 3, it's Free Comic Book Day.
Charlotte's Heroes Aren't Hard to Find has one of the best events in the country with comic stars such as Brian Stelfreeze and Mark Brooks creating free sketches. You can't beat that.
Take a kid you love to get some comics, they'll thank you for it.
Free Comic Book Day was a lot of fun. The gang at Heroes Aren't Hard To Find did their usual awesome job of hosting and the artists that showed up were great, turning out tons of sketches for hundreds of people.
All of the sketches were free in the spirit of the day and the lines to see the artists were very long.
My kids both waited to see Ian Flynn who most recently has been working on Sonic the Hedgehog, a book they both read regularly. Ian kindly drew their Sonic requests and answered questions about the Sonic comic.

The three of us waited to meet Adam Hughes. I have been a fan of Adam since the days he worked on Justice League. Adam's time on the JLA is still my favorite era for that book.
Adam drew a Lara Croft for me and Wolverine for my youngest son.

While watching Adam I grabbed a quick movie of him sketching. This movie clip is pretty much the entire sketch except for a bit of inking at the end.

Because of the huge crowds, many of the artists were knocking out most sketches in two or three minutes, reminding me of the superheroes that flowed from their pencils.
I was able to watch Mark Brooks sketch, but due to the long lines that was it. I'll have to catch up with Mark at Heroes Con this summer. Mark did the pencils on Arana.
Thanks to all of the artists that took time to come to Charlotte and meet the comic and art geeks. We appreciate it.
