Reba and Kelly

So I went to see Reba and Kelly Friday night. I have to admit when I first saw the ad for the show I was skeptical. It just sounded ... odd.

But, I have to admit I was very pleasantly surprised. Not only does it work, but it's one of the most entertaining concerts I've seen in a while. I should also mention that it should be Reba-Kelly-Melissa, because Melissa Peterman is a huge part of the show, and she's very funny. For those that don't know, Melissa played Reba's daughter on Reba, the sitcom that ran for six years.

Let's clear up the first misconception, it's not a show where Kelly sings and Reba comes on later. It's a concert where they both sing together, the entire time. Yes, virtually every song is a duet, and on the very few when it's not a duet, Kelly or Reba stands slightly to the side providing the background vocals. That's pretty rare though.

As for Melissa, she opens with stand up comedy and then comes back later to harass Reba and Kelly onstage. I've never seen this in my 30+ years of attending concerts and it worked really well.

My favorite line was when Melissa hands Reba a Budweiser and steps back: "Well look at that," she says. "The queen of country, with the king of beers."

The show was very uptempo, and heavily rock oriented, which may have annoyed some longtime Reba fans, but from my viewpoint Reba was having a great time, and enjoying the chance to stretch her repertoire.

I also heard some grumbling that it wasn't a typical Reba show, which means no costume changes and no big production. Instead, this was a stripped down rock tour, and a really good one.

Nick and Nora Get Mixed Up

This is a movie for those guys that had the really lame car (mine was a Pinto) and always liked the rock girls.

And no, I will never, ever, chew gum again.

Tift Merritt - No Abba in sight

This is the current "single" from Tift Merritt's third album, it's titled Keep You Happy. It's probably the softest song she's ever recorded.

Telling the World About Tift

While awaiting the fate of Disney's Adventurers Club I thought I'd introduce everyone to the amazingly talented Tift Merritt.

Fergie Did What?

Okay, I was late to the party with this one, I had no idea this song was in Shrek 3. After Shrek 2 can you blame me for skipping the third one?

So last week I noticed Fergie released a cover of Heart's Barracuda. The Wilson sisters have always been one of my favorite bands, so curiosity got the better of me, and I downloaded the cover  from iTunes. I was surprised, it actually rocked.

I was vaguely aware of this Idol performance, but I hate Idol, so I skipped the show when it came on and ignored the video from iTunes (no longer available).

But here it is anyway.

For all the critics. If Ann and Nancy like it enough to get on the stage with you, it's a good rendition. I don't care for Fergie's first CD, but hey, if she wants to go rock, I'll listen.

Jammin' at Daryl Hall's house.

This time with Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes. A very cool version of the Animal's classic Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, reggae style, then they transition into an impromptu Adult Education.

YouTube has been probably been the most significant thing to happen to the web in the last five years. If you are a music fan, like me, you are in heaven.

Because of YouTube we get amazing things like this:
