Our next Record of the Week is another North Carolina band, The Mountain Goats. This 45 is a bonus that was included as a limited release with some of the copies of their new album Transcendental Youth.
The Mountain Goats were formed in Claremont California by John Darnielle, but currently reside in Durham North Carolina. They are classified as folk rock, but I don't think the classification does them justice. I think John's music is unique enough that he almost deserves his own classification. Don't take my word for it, just listen.
Fans of the Showtime series Weeds may have heard the Mountain Goats during the run of the show. Mountain Goats songs were featured in seasons one and four, and the Mountain Goats recorded the theme for the show (Little Boxes) for episode 5 of season 8.
